and they had two children, Krista, born in 1984 and
Justin, born in 1986. In the fall of 1985, they
surrendered to go to the mission field, and in June of 1989, the Lord having led
and provided, they arrived in Aguascalientes, Mexico to begin learning Spanish.
Three
months after their arrival in Mexico, a lumber truck ran a stop sign and
collided into their vehicle, killing Debbie instantly. Krista, 5 years old at
the time, died in Wayne’s arms in the back of the ambulance on the way to the
hospital. Wayne and Justin, 3 years old, suffered injuries but in God’s
providence survived the accident.
Two weeks
later Wayne’s father went to be with the Lord, leaving the pulpit of his
church vacant. The church asked Wayne to be interim pastor,
which he did for a year until he returned to Mexico. Wayne’s newly widowed mother had agreed to accompany him back to
Mexico to help take care
of Justin.
In the
summer of 1992 Wayne and his family were back in the states for a short trip to
Greenville, SC. Wayne was invited to preach at a Wednesday evening prayer meeting
at Faith Free Presbyterian Church. There he met one of their members, Marty
Behn. After lots of letters and phone calls, and much prayer and seeking the
Lord’s leading, they were married on January 1, 1994 in Greenville.
Also in January 1994 Beacon Baptist Church in Alamance, NC became their
commissioning church and sending agency.
Early in
1994 the Andersen’s returned to Mexico City. The Lord has graciously given them
2 more boys. Joshua, August 24, 1995 and Nathanael, Feb. 13, 1998. Their oldest
son Justin was born September 18, 1986.
Their
primary mission in Mexico City
is to establish reformed churches through various means. Very soon they hope to
see the Grace and Truth Baptist Mission constituted into a church.
Since
Wayne is a commercial printer by trade, they are also heavily involved in
writing, translating, and publishing reformed Spanish literature. IN July of
1998, Publicaciones Faro de Gracia (Beacon of Grace Publications) was
incorporated as a non-profit organization for the purpose of publishing and
distributing Spanish literature internationally. They have opened a bookstore
and distribution warehouse in Mexico City.
Their web page,
www.farodegracia.org can be accessed in English or Spanish, and lists all
their titles. Even as God used gospel literature during the Great Reformation,
the Andersens are praying that the Lord would use these books, along with gospel
preaching, to usher in a great revival in Mexico and other Latin American
countries.
The
majority of the population in Mexico is Roman catholic. The Roman church has
done it’s work in blinding hearts and minds to the truth of God’s word. Most of
all, the Andersens ask you to pray for a true Holy Sprit revival, that God would
build His church in Mexico and bring countless souls to Himself for His own
glory!
