Our Family - A Brief History
In October 1986 a small group met to study the Bible using The London
Confession of Faith of 1689. The Lord blessed this small group and added to
their number. In December of 1987 once a month worship services were held in
the home of Al & Lori Huber.
Weekly worship
services began on March 19, 1988 with Dale Smith preaching. That summer
renovation work began on a building at 7401 Old River Rd. The first services
were held on August 21, 1988. During this time Pastor Gordon Taylor from
Sycamore Baptist Church was helping to direct those attending the worship to
determine if the Lord was raising up a Reformed Baptist Church in Rockford.
On February 10, 1990 Gordon Taylor officiated at
interviews for church membership and on February 11, 1990 Dale Smith was
nominated for the office of Elder. On February 25, 1990 Grace Reformed
Church of Rockford Illinois was constituted and Dale Smith received a unanimous
vote for the office of Elder. The Lord continued to bless the church and
add to its number. In March of 1993 two deacons were installed. On April
26, 1995 the church adopted a name change to Grace Reformed Baptist Church.
On May 7, 1995 the church met for the first time in their present location at
7721 N. Alpine Rd.
Today Grace Reformed Baptist Church has four Elders and six Deacons. We support
four foreign missionaries. We actively support and encourage Christians seeking
to begin Reformed Baptist Churches by sending men to preach.
