As a child, David Vaughn
attended a Roman Catholic church and frequently read the New Testament. Unable
to answer the concern of his soul as to how he might be right with God, David
hardened his heart during high school and by college had turned away from any
serious thought about his relationship with or need of God.

In God’s providence, while in
college David overheard several members of Campus Crusade for Christ sharing the
Gospel. As they explained Christ’s work on the cross and what it accomplished,
David’s eyes were opened to the truth of the gospel and he joyfully received
God’s salvation in Christ and determined that his life must be totally His.
After graduation he went to Ivory Coast, West Africa with Campus Crusade. While
there he learned to speak French fluently and gained experience in
cross-cultural adaptation and ministry.
In 1987 David met Nicola Fuller at a Campus Crusade
leaders’ conference. Nicola, a South African, had often thought of going to
French-speaking Africa as a missionary, but found it an impossible hope when she
contracted Chronic Fatique Syndrome (a disease which weakens the immune
system). In June 1989, David and Nicky were married. They have been blessed
with three children. Caroline, Feb. 21, 1991; Jonathan, Oct. 16, 1993; and
Michelle, Oct. 29, 1997.
They were set aside for service as missionaries by their
home church, Heritage Church of Fayetteville, Georgia. In October of 1991 they
went to Chalon-sur-saone, France where they worked for seven years to plant a
church.
In March of 1999 they moved to Grenoble, France to begin a
new church-planting work. The work began in March 1999 with one French family.
By October there were about 30 regular attendees. By the spring of 2005
the church had purchased its own building, having 32 members and regular
attendees. The Vaughns ask for prayer that the church might be able to reach
many people in this new location and the God would raise up godly French elders. |
